In business almost since 1969, Summit, founded by Felix Storch, makes a wide
variety of personal appliance and foodservice products, including
washers/dryers, beer and wine coolers, refrigerators and freezers, and, of
course, Summit Ice Makers. Located primarily in the Bronx, NY, Summit also
operates in a multitude of factories, but the company has remained family-owned
throughout its long history, having no outside investors, allowing them to see
their own visions to fruition with no special interest influence to mar the
production of their quality products, meaning a more satisfying experience for
their customers.
The ice maker line from Summit offers three separate models to choose from:
the Summit BIM40OS, the Summit BIM44, and the Summit BIM44AL. All these ice
machines are excellent choices for installing in your home and are NSF certified
for commercial use. These ice makers have mid-range daily ice capacities--about
44 pounds each--and will provide your residence or office with plenty of clean,
clear ice. These ice makers are sized to fit under a standard countertop, or
stand free, but whichever way you choose, a permanent water hose must be
installed, and drain access is recommended, though not required. The Summit
BIM40OS Ice Maker is the heaviest of the bunch at 136 pounds, while the Summit
BIM44 and Summit BIM44AL weigh in at 116 pounds. All these ice makers have
stainless steel doors, but only the Summit BIM40OS Ice Maker has a fully encased
stainless steel body, which accounts for the extra twenty pounds. The stainless
steel design is complimentary to any kitchen, office or wet bar, and the door
can easily be reversed should limited space permit you to open it to the left or
right
These ice machines are, thankfully, simpler to install than comparable ice
makers from other manufacturers, as they do not require hardwiring, and can be
plugged into a standard 115V outlet, akin to a garbage disposal. The Summit
BIM40OS Ice Maker, Summit BIM44 Ice Maker, and Summit BIM44AL Ice Maker have a
better storage-to-output ratio as well. Many of their competitors' ice machines
only store about 25% of the ice cubes it actually produces, meaning more time
spent transferring the extra ice to the freezer to allow the new ice to be
stored. Summit wants its ice makers to be as convenient and user-friendly as
possible, and made sure that the BIM40OS Ice Maker, BIM44 Ice Maker, and BIM44AL
Ice Maker can store more than half of what they can fully produce in one day.
That's 25 pounds of ice storage! The ice formed in Summit's "BIM" ice maker line
is clear and clean, appropriate for restaurant standards, and come fully
equipped with ice scoops and insulated ice storage, keeping your ice chilled and
frozen.
Summit Ice Makers are excellent, top-quality ice machines from an excellent,
top-quality manufacturer. We are proud to feature their products on Portable
Cubes, so be sure to include Summit when considering the purchase of our fine
ice maker products.
